Quartz Counter Tops are an engineered, man-made stone containing ground quartz, high-quality polymer resin, and pigment. This mixture is poured into a mold which results in your counter top having a consistent feel from one end to the other. It is bacteria, stain, chip, and heat resistant. Also, Quartz counter tops are much more scratch resistant than Granite. Only diamond edge knives and stone cutters can cut or scratch a Quartz counter top. It does not need to be sealed and comes in a wide variety of colors to match your kitchen or bathroom’s design.

Granite counter tops are made from granite, which is a natural course-grained rock formed under intense heat and cut from the earth. They are composed of orthoclase, albite feldspars, quartz, and other minerals. Even though granite contains quartz, Granite counter tops differ from Quartz counter tops. Granite counter tops can stain and scratch, but proper sealing can help alleviate this. This is the most important difference between Granite and Quartz. Sealing options are available to granite top customers—Basic and Granite Life.

In Basic sealing, a professional sealer is used prior to installation and then every two years, or as needed, the customer will need to reapply. To know if your Granite needs resealing, water put on the surface of the Granite will absorb and leave a temporary stain. If the water beads up, your Granite is properly sealed.

Granite Life is an upgraded sealer with a 15-year warranty against chipping and
common stains. If you need to apply your warranty, Granite Life Company can be contacted to send a tech to fix the issue or the counter top will be replaced.

The choice between Granite and Quartz is mainly an aesthetic opinion. Both options are equal in function once the Granite is sealed. If you would like a cleaner, more polished look, Quartz is the best option. If you would like a more natural, unique look, Granite would be the choice.

Our Custom Wood Counter Tops are only made for accent pieces such as islands, desks, and bookcases, to name a few. These items are made with the same quality materials and care as our cabinets and custom pieces.
