Have you ever walked into someone’s house and noticed they had mismatched dining chairs around their table? Or, have you seen a room with one style couch, a different love seat, and yet a different recliner? You could have walked into a poor college graduate’s apartment or into a home where someone intentionally chose those pieces to match their own personal design personality, also known as an eclectic style of decorating.

Designers at Cruzine Magazine define eclectic décor as

“[…] a combination of styles in order to design an environment, which would have a great look, artistic taste, and a specific connective element, which would make the whole design look as one piece of work.”

One the flip side of eclecticism, you can choose from a wide variety of styles such as Art Deco, Country Cottage, Minimalist, Contemporary, etc. to design your décor from.

There is no right or wrong answer to decorating your house; it’s all about personal preference. It’s also about what you love. If you love the design, do it! If you don’t love it, change it! From colors, to patterns, to shapes and textures, a house’s design can vary from person to person and from room to room.

Take this kitchen from Trendzona for example. It has Contemporary Style cabinets and appliances, Industrial lighting and shelves, accents of Rustic style with wooden countertops and the rock/stone corner of the wall.

The possibilities are endless when you are open and free in your style.

So, what is your preference? Do you like the eclectic look or would you rather commit to one decorating style?
