“Back in…Blue”

Welcome to our remodeled website and brand new blog section! We’re glad you’ve decided to look around. If you have any questions about what we offer or would like to make an appointment, please visit our contact page or post a comment below.

Did you know that blues for decorating is socially acceptable again? Especially in painting your cabinets or other pieces of furniture different colors? If you think about it long enough, you might get horrible images of the 40’s where blues and muted pinks were paired along with yellow floral wallpaper.

I will have to say, I kind of like the blue/beige stripped pattern on those chairs.
The trend today, thankfully without the patterned wallpaper, is very versatile. You can put your blue on an accent piece or focal piece.

Robbin’s Egg Blue Kitchen Cabinets, Domino Magazine

Here, these Robin’s Egg blue kitchen cabinets brighten the kitchen without overpowering it while the stainless steel appliances help to neutralize the blue color, and the black chandelier gives a little edge.

Blue works great as accent colors, too. When you do blue as an accent, you can go more bold on the shade as opposed to using it as a focal color where bold may overwhelm.

Jewel-toned Blues and Naturals, www.apartmenttherapy.com

Take this room for instance. The couch, floor, side table, and even the walls are natural/neutral colors, and adding the bold, jewel-toned blues in the pillow and glass jars give great contrast and color appeal.

Don’t be afraid to try pops of blue on your own cabinets or pillows or anything else, for that matter. If you don’t like it, you can always paint over it or take the pillows back (or put them on Craigslist).

What about you? Do you like blues for accents, on your focal pieces, or does it remind you too much of how people did it in the 40’s and 50’s?

I love the blue as accents! I don’t think I would be brave enough to go all out on say the kitchen cabinets.
